About PPPAI

The Public Procurement Professional Association of India (PPPAI) is the first dedicated association for public procurement professionals in India. It was officially launched on 24th September 2020, in collaboration with leading international organizations including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations (ITC, Geneva), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), New Development Bank (NDB), and ISM-INDIA (an affiliate of ISM-USA).

PPPAI is committed to developing, supporting, and promoting the professionalization of public procurement across the country.

With public procurement accounting for nearly 25% of India’s GDP—approximately USD 730 billion annually—ensuring Value for Money (VfM) is of paramount importance. The professional development of officials responsible for managing this expenditure is therefore essential to enhancing transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness in procurement processes at all levels of government.

Country Procurement Lead The World Bank India
CoP: Community of Practice

CoP

Community of Practice for Modernizing Public Procurement in India Initiated by The World Bank.

Public Procurement plays a vital role in shaping the development journey of a country and the efficacy of government spend. According to World Bank report, in year 2019, Government procurement spending reached US$13 trillion worldwide, or around 15 percent of global gross domestic product(GDP).

On the one hand, public procurement ensures that scarce public resources are spent with due care towards efficiency, transparency, integrity, and value for money. On the other hand, public procurement acts as a vehicle of choice for promoting small and medium enterprises, women-owned business, and environmentally friendly products/solutions, thereby ensuring a sustainable development outcome. In recent years, public procurement function has also embraced an increased use of technology leading to improved process efficiency, transparency, and data analytics.
